Stayed in many pods before and this has to be the worst ever. They are totally bodged up, my other half was seriously concerned that they are not cemented in, they sit on a hillside upon breeze blocks and other large stones there was a gap in the back right corner where a shift had taken place and it wasn't sitting on anything. There are holes everywhere they are not sealed and the doors are very ill fitted. Draughty was an understatement there is a 3 bar electric radiator (Not worth plugging in) everything is on a slope the fires on a slope its well dangerous my partner was wondering how the pods were passed by building as safe,, as some had metal bars holding them.in place and straps holding steps in place, there was no running water in the sink in the toilet block an no toilet roll in any toilet. My partener told me the men's toilet was full of feces that hadn't been cleaned off. It's a beautiful setting however totally bodged up and you can just tell its such a shame. We paid for 2 nights & buggered off after one. We wont be returning
We have stayed here four times and each time was a wonderful experience. It is a semi wild site, you can choose to go out into the more wilder areas or stay close to the toilets/showers.The owners are great people and nothing is too much trouble, we have always been looked after. We take our five year old and he loves the freedom to explore and we don't have to worry about traffic etc. Great base for exploring the surrounding areas and there is an excellent walk around the reservoir close by. We would recommend to those who don't mind getting out into the wilds and back to basics, this isn't a commercial site. The views are amazing and it is a dark sky area. I have seen others post about the toilets/showers, we have never had a problem and they are cleaned each day. Take your own loo roll as it isn't supplied.Last of all, enjoy, get back to nature and go and explore
Terrible experienceI appreciate it was wild camping but you pay for a Glamping pod which is nothing more than a wooden shed.The facilities on the site are awful, the sink in the toilet area does not work at all, the showers /toilets look like they have not been cleaned in months.I would personally say this site is extremely overpriced and would certainly not return.
Disappointing. There was no glamping to it whatsoever. Only positives were the friendly welcome from Sam, the view, and the heater in the cabin. Other than that, the facilities are severely lacking. No hand washing facilities in the dirty toilets. Only a single cold water tap outside. No sanitary bins. The pods look and feel frighteningly precarious. Nothing to cover the cabin windows with, and not even a hook or small table or shelf in it. We were told once there that they were aiming more for the wild camping aspect, but had that been what I was looking for, I would have been disappointed too as there was rubbish strewn all over the site, piles of it in the camping field. There clearly is not much management of the place.
If you want wild(er) camping, this is it. One of the best locations I have ever camped at in this country in terms of spectacular scenery and the freedom to have open fires, collect wood, etc. However, be aware that you have to walk from your car to your pitch, with a number of pitches on a hillside. Sam the owner is very welcoming and enthusiastic to accommodate everyone's needs, but on our visit the site was let down by inadequate toilet provision (due to damage caused by a stag party) and no hot water or wash basins, but like I said at the beginning this IS basic, wild camping!
